Colombia
Colombia is a country of remarkable diversity, offering two ocean coastlines, the Amazon rainforest, snow-capped Andean mountains, and vibrant urban communities. Each region possesses its own distinct culture and landscape, contributing to the country’s exceptional coffee-growing heritage.
Located in northwestern Colombia, the department of Antioquia is recognised as the birthplace of Colombian coffee and remains one of the nation’s largest coffee-producing regions. Its mountainous terrain, combined with a mild, humid climate, provides ideal conditions for cultivating high-quality Arabica coffee. Many of Colombia’s finest coffees originate from this prosperous region.
Medellín – The City of Eternal Spring
The capital of Antioquia, Medellín, is often referred to as the City of Eternal Spring due to its consistently pleasant climate and lush vegetation.
Nestled between the Cordillera Occidental and Cordillera Central mountain ranges, the region benefits from a unique microclimate fed by numerous rivers flowing through the valley. Average temperatures remain between 17°C and 23°C, while balanced rainfall creates ideal growing conditions throughout the year.
Antioquia’s fertile soils are also renowned for their excellent water retention, helping sustain coffee production even during drier periods.
Las Petunias
Las Petunias represents an exceptional selection of washed Arabica coffees sourced from the lush mountain slopes surrounding Medellín.
The coffee offers a balanced cup profile where bright fruit acidity is complemented by sweet, wine-like characteristics, resulting in a smooth and approachable coffee enjoyed by specialty coffee lovers around the world.

Bean Grading
“Excelso” is the common grading term for exportable coffee from Colombia – it is not related to the varietal or to the cupping profile.
Colombian coffee is graded according to bean size: Supremo and Excelso beans are harvested from the same coffee trees, but they are sorted by size. Excelso coffee beans are large, but slightly smaller than Supremo coffee beans with a 15/16 screen size compared to 17/18 for Supremo Excelso accounts for the greatest volume of coffee exported from Colombia
